Marville

The village of Marville is situated on a promontory in an attractive Country side and situated near to today’s Belgium frontier. Marville today retains many important Historic links, situated 12 Kilometers east of Montmedy.

An Ancient site of Celtic worship where during the Roman period stood a Roman villa and a Temple to Mars.

During the Merovingian period a Church was built on the site, Marville contains a wealth of ancient remains including Gothic and renaissance architecture. The Church of Saint Nicholas is a wonderful example of renaissance, architecture, carvings and statues.

 

For a century Marville was occupied by the Spanish from 1555, who built many beautiful renaissance buildings. In the vicinity of Marville there exists important sites of Merovingian archeology as of yet unexplored.
