It was build somewhere in the 8th Century near the Semois river in Southern Belgium. It is first mentioned in 988AD. 

All present buildings are from the 16th Century. The origin of the site of the castle goes back to Gallo -Roman period. It was an important North-South passage point between Upper and lower Lotharingia.
