After the Romans left the lands of Western Europe, the Early Middle Ages, “often known as the Dark Ages,” are typically portrayed as a period of decline, unrest, and darkness. However, in actuality, this was a time of prosperity with lots of interactions and connections with other regions of the world.
“We must comprehend why there hasn’t been much information available about this significant time in our Western European History up until now.”
The Holy Roman Catholic Church’s foundation as the preeminent Power in Europe for the following 1000 years occurred during this crucial time period.
It is believed that we know little about the Merovingian period, which marks the start of the Early Middle Ages, because it is absent from textbooks. However, the periods from the fifth to the seventh centuries have been extensively studied through archaeology in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. This was a prosperous period, as evidenced by the spectacular gold treasures and abundant grave fields filled with status symbols, luxury items, and personal luxuries including jewelry, glassware, and weapons.
The architecture of homes, patterns of settlement, early industry, rituals, and identities have all been the subject of recent archaeological research on Early Middle Ages villages. Due to a positive link between Land and People, life during the Merovingian era was significantly more tranquil and wealthy than has often been believed.
Villages in the Low-Lands were a part of a tightly knit global trade network, people from all walks of life had access to luxury goods. People during this time were healthier than those before and after, according to skeletal studies. Additionally, the concept of the earliest Middle Ages as a whole needs to be clarified. For instance, the well-known “migrations” were mostly slow changes, and the conversion to Christianity was a protracted process that allowed for a great deal of individual freedom of choice.

Our objective is to reach a new, younger audience that will actively support the work of the foundation by spreading the word about our work. Although general public membership forms the foundation of the Order, we can also accept donations and contributions for particular initiatives, such as the acquisition and restoration of historical structures in France and Belgium.
