In the history of the Merovingian Bloodline the South of France plays an important role.
After Dagobert’s death, the Merovingian bloodline continued in the personage of Sigisbert IV, born in 676 A.D., who fled together with his mother Gisela of Razes to the south of France, to the village of Rennes le Chateau in Razes. Sigisbert assumed the name of “the Plant-Ard”, which means “sapling” or “branch” and the title Count of Razes.
Sigebert IV arrived in Razes on the 17 of January 681 A.D. where he took refuge with his grandfather.
“Dagobert II his second wife, Gisèle, was the daughter of Béra II the count of Razès”.
